An Asian woman was reportedly raped at Al Mamzar Park by a man who posed as a staff member of the Dubai Municipality. The suspect, a Bangladeshi national, was arrested and referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution.
Alerted of the incident, the Dubai Police rushed to the park and met the 21-year-old Pakistani woman who said she was raped by a man who seemed to be in his 40s.
She said she was sitting at the park with a friend when the suspect asked for their IDs and demanded that they pay a fine of Dh500. Falling prey to the fraud, her friend then went to the parking area to get their money and ID cards, leaving her alone with the man.
He allegedly dragged the complainant to a sandy area surrounded by trees at the park; pushed her to the ground; and forced himself into her. She struggled and tried to scream but he covered her mouth and pinned her down. He also reportedly stole her mobile phone, the woman said.
When the man let her go and fled the scene, she ran to her friend who then called the police.
The Dubai Police found that the suspect, H.A., was an illegal resident. As soon as they learned that he was staying in Al Ghafia, Sharjah, they located his flat and arrested him.
The suspect confessed that he went to Al Mamzar, saw the woman and her friend, and showed them his old ID card from the Dubai Municipality. He also admitted to the rape accusation, according to the police.
Forensic laboratory test results confirmed a match between his DNA and a sample found in the complainant’s body. The suspect was then referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution.
